From a photo to a 3D model to a quote
Customers send a photo of what they want made. They get a 3D model back, and the team gets everything it needs to quote it.
The idea
Commissioning a sculpture used to start with a long email thread. Now it starts with a picture: the customer uploads a photo in the app or on the website, an AI service turns it into a 3D model, and the request arrives with the model attached.
I designed the system end to end and built most of it.
How it is built
- 3D generation
- Meshy turns the customer's photo into a 3D model.
- Back ends
- Two Wix Velo back ends, one for dargenta.com and one for dargenta.mx, each deployed from its own Git repository with the Wix CLI.
- Permanent archive
- Every model — GLB, USDZ and a thumbnail — is archived the moment it is generated, in private cloud storage behind a Cloudflare Worker, because the generator deletes its files after three days.
- Apps
- Flutter apps: one for customers in Mexico, one for the rest of the world, and a private admin app for Mac and iPhone.
- Quotes
- Each request emails the team the model, dimensions, material, quantity and budget, and the quote links to the model permanently.
- Admin
- The admin app keeps every model in sync on each authorised Mac and holds the team's conversations with customers.
The constraint that shaped it
Wix back-end functions accept at most 512 KB per request, and photos travel to the 3D service inside that request. So the apps resize each photo on the phone before it leaves — small enough to pass, large enough for a good model.
